Old War Horses....

French Broad Cycling Classic....

DS taking the front during the FBCC Crit as we create a separation in the field with 2 national caliber old horses (Stevens & Higgins).   We ended up taking 3rd (bird), and 5th (DS) in the crit, and DS ended up 4th in omnium and I took 5th for a challenging weekend of racing.

Team Mate...

25 years ago I did my first race.  A Crit.  In Pensacola, Florida as part of the Festival of Speed.  Masters 35+.   I took 2nd in a photo finish on a boulevard lined with people.   It was, without a doubt, one of the most exhilarating experiences of my sporting life.   In the past 25 years I have not won one race.  2nd, 3rd, top 5, top 10 yes many times but never a first….

Until  yesterday….. at the NC State RR Championships……

In the blistering heat that saw our heart rates rocket to new highs, and an effort that tested our will to continue, the DS kept me going … pulled me, cajoled me, kept me calm, and then blocked for me a mile out so I could solo across as the NC 60+ state champion.

That win is every bit as much Randall’s as it is mine.  It would not have happened without his support.  A great team mate.

Thanks Randall.

congrats again!

congrats to Bird and Randall for a fine 1/2 at NC roads!

Salt Water Fish vs Fresh Water Fish

Teenie and I participated in the Fab 4 today at Tryon.  Katie Malone and a host of folks put on a really nice 'event'.   Good course, lots of volunteers, good and healthy food after.

I must confess, I had a miserable time.   I have not been in this sport all my life but long enough to 'find myself'.   I am bike racer.   I ride in training and do just fun rides, but my heart is in racing.

Today's event was not a race, although I could have raced it but I did not.  After signing up, this was second mistake.  Going back to my opening statement, we participated and did not race.

The event draws many VERY STRONG good riders.   I saw a lot of these people excited and having a very good time.

About once a year, it seems I have to do a cookie ride to remind me I don't do cookie rides.  I am not a participant, I am a racer.

OK, let's get back to the fish thing.....there are salt water fish and fresh water fish.   Neither is better, just different.  Salt water fish don't get into fresh water much and vise versa.  I just need to remember which one I am.
