Team headstrong will enter 2014 under 2 new teams, Greenville Velo (out of Greenville, SC) and Maddog83 (out of Tucson, Az).. It has been a great 4 years of racing, companionship, and community. We have accomplished some great things, but like all things, time moves on and so will we. See below for more details......

Tuesday SCTAC

Several of us have been having discussions on the Tuesday night ride’s participation and safety this season.   Several talking points have arisen, namely    safety (quite a number of crashes this year in the A’s)
  1. safety
  2. participation (paying is really down, and the B group has all but disappeared)
  3.  quality / skills of riders in the A (to point number 1 and no. 2)
  4.  road condition

We would like to ensure that Tuesday night continues and grows in participation as one of the key training events in the upstate.    We cannot do much about the road surface, but we can collectively address the other issues.

  • ·         First we need to re-establish the B group, pulling back some of those trying to race in the A’s. and create a competitive training environment for riders to become higher level racers
    • o    I will be riding the B’s Tuesday, and am asking any of you (and anyone you can solicit) that can, to join me as an effort to rebuild the B race.
    • o   We should set a competitive B pace, I would guess somewhere between 21-23mph,
    • o   This may take time, but I would guess we would see more join us each week as those that cannot hang with A’s are overtaken by the B’s..  and that it is a better “fit” for many of the racers..
  • ·         one concept is that the A’s should be for Licensed EXPERIENCED riders, specifically that it should be Men Cat IV and above, Women Cat III and above,  but this is a self regulated as no one wants to “police” the ride.
  • ·         Solicit other cyclists to join us …
  • ·         Encourage every participant to “ante up”…… rule is …”if you ride, you should pay”

As one of Greenville’s predominant teams we should help to improve the SCTAC Tuesday night ride in participation, safety, competitiveness, and fun.

In keeping with that, we would like feedback and suggestions around this topic from you and any other participating cyclist.

I hope see some of you out there tomorrow night.  And feel free to share this with anyone…(I sent an email version of this out)

It has been a tradition to have an A and B ride for years! Where did the B ride go, anyway? I miss it.
